Summer Training 2022

 In Fun & Events

Summer 2022 saw the return of full outdoor training for Lincoln Cannons. Thanks to the Cannons coaching team, the club were able to host weekly sessions at local parks to help all our members keep up their skills. With regular sessions in the sunshine, tournaments and Party in the Park, our Cannons really made the most of the summer!

During the summer our training programme is reduced to give players a break from intense training. Our outdoor park sessions allow for players to enjoy more fun focused session and more importantly to socialise with other members to maintain connections and support each other. These are extremely important for our members in our support for them to be physically and mentally healthy.

Summer Skills

Summer training enabled Cannons to continue to develop skills learnt indoors, as well increasing players confidence. Not to mention the fun that was had by all! By extending the training sessions to include an outdoor session each week, our Cannons were able to work on their basic skill development. This includes skills such as passing, volleying and hitting. All of which are fundamental for volleyball!

Playing volleyball outdoors comes with additional challenges. Such as contending with the elements- a windy day makes for a trickier game! This meant that our Cannons definitely got their fair share of cardio work into the sessions. Outdoor training also brings plenty of chasing after the ball with it!

I loved the relaxed atmosphere of the outdoor sessions. It was also a great opportunity to continue practicing the skills we learned during the season and develop our confidence on court!

Summer Tournaments

Summer 2022 also saw Lincoln Cannons enter the Nottingham VolleyFest grass tournament! Eight of our Cannons headed to Nottingham to take part in the tournament organised by Nottingham Rockets VC. The day involved over five 20-minute games per team resulting into two final competitions: the Cup and the Plate. Our Cannons teams ended up finishing second in the Cup and winning the Plate competitions! All in all, a great day in the sunshine and fun had by all!

It was a great day. The weather was amazing and the volleyball was even better. Love playing on grass. It has the beach weather but I can still jump!
